No dents from the dryer method? im about to go check on my leak and go buy some bb's. ______________

so i found the article on rusty tanks in the tech archive and i just bought about a gallon of molasses. the article says to use a mixture of molasses and water... anybody know about how much of each to use? im attempting to stay away from chemical cleaners because i have a tank with good original paint. __________________ "There's no school like the old school and I'm the fucking head master" -rockn'rolla
I generally use 20:1 mix which takes about 3 weeks to knock most rust off. Will also dissolve aluminium and plastics raack n roll too if you leave them in it. 10:1 works in about 8-10 days but you have to watch it . The down sides are that it stinks really bad , will attract all nature of animals , flies & bugs and will dissolve some paint types as well(can't remember which types though). Do a test on the paint under the tunnel leaving raack n roll a dob of 5:1 mix on a small piece for a few days and if the paint is OK then immerse the whole thing . Otherwise , use a decent brass or steel bung for the tap holes and fill it up. If there are ANY pinholes or really bad rust patches you may find all that stinky mollassas raack n roll water everywhere one morning so check to see if the paint reacts with the mixture first.
I use the mechanical method. No liquids, no waiting a week or two for it to work, no mess to clean up later. You'll need a box of BB's, a blanket, a way to plug all openings and fitting on the tank, several blankets and a clothes drier. 1) Plug all holes and fittings on tank. 2) Pour in the box of BB's 3) Tightly wrap the tank in a blanket and secure with tape, bungie cord or whatever. 4) Using the remainding blankets as padding raack n roll to avoid movement of the tank place the tank in the clothes drier and close the door. 5) SET DRIER TO NO HEAT ! Turn drier on and let that sucker tumble for about an hr or 2 depending on amount of rust. 6) Remove your super clean on the inside gas tank from drier and pour out the ALL BB's and instal on bike. 7) Get many girls to blow you since you're an environmentaly raack n roll swell guy and do stuff the green way. No waste, no mess, no shit....honest.
so is that 20 parts molasses raack n roll to 1 part water or the other way around? i just want to be absolutely clear. i already started raack n roll and ive basically mixed to the consistency of pancake syrup but ive only filled it half way. ive ealready sprung a small leak from the tire valve stems i used to plug the petcock holes, but i think the sticky molasses has actually sealed the leak itself! the tanks not too bad off and i could probably just get away with running an inline filter. if this turns out too messy i might just go that way. __________________ "There's no school like the old school and I'm the fucking head master" -rockn'rolla

One very important thing has been overlooked. You do not use grocery store molassis. You must use Horse Feed grade molassis. __________________ http://www.vintageamericanmotorcycles.com Be sure to register at the site so you can see large images.
For light rust, regular Coca-Cola works, if you can wait a week. Open up some two liter bottle
